1. About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Levin Chakravorty, trading as “Torn” (“we”, “us”), contact hello@dailymoraldilemma.com. By using Torn on the web, iOS or Android, you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains how we handle data, and our disclaimer explains what Torn is and isn’t.
On the App Store, these terms sit alongside Apple’s Standard End User Licence Agreement.
2. Who can use Torn
You must be 13 or older. If you’re under 13, please don’t use Torn. If you’re under 18, please make sure a parent or carer is happy for you to use it. Some features (like optional crash reporting) are only offered to people aged 16 or over.
3. What Torn is
Torn shows one moral dilemma a day, plus a library of classic dilemmas and articles. You choose an answer, predict what most people chose, and see anonymous results, explainers and a personal moral profile and calibration score.
- The moral profile describes tendencies in your answers. It isn’t a psychological assessment, diagnosis or judgement of your character, and it isn’t professional advice of any kind.
- Explainers and articles are educational summaries. They are not a complete account of any philosophical position.
- Results show anonymous totals of Torn users. They aren’t a scientific survey of any population.
- Some dilemmas deal with difficult themes such as death, harm and medical choices. If a topic is distressing, you can skip it. If you’re struggling, in the UK you can call Samaritans on 116 123, or Childline on 0800 1111 if you’re under 19.
4. Free service, no payments
Torn is free, with no ads and no in-app purchases. We may change, pause or stop Torn (or any feature) at any time. We’ll try to give notice, and if we close Torn we’ll let you export your data first where we can.
5. Fair use
Please don’t:
- use bots, scripts, multiple installs or other tricks to manipulate votes or results;
- try to access other people’s data, bypass security or app integrity checks, or overload our systems;
- copy, scrape or republish our dilemmas, explainers or articles in bulk, or use them to train AI models, without permission;
- use Torn in any unlawful way.
We may block or delete app IDs used to break these rules.
6. Our content
The dilemmas, explainers, articles, design and software belong to us or our licensors. You may use Torn for your own personal, non-commercial purposes, share links to our pages, and share result cards made with the Share button. Classic thought experiments are credited to their originators.
7. Your data and deleting it
Your answers and profile stay on your device. You can delete your data at any time in the app (Settings → Privacy → Delete my data) or by emailing hello@dailymoraldilemma.com. See the privacy policy.
8. Our responsibility to you
- We provide Torn “as is”. We work hard to keep it accurate and available, but we can’t promise it will always be error-free or uninterrupted, or that your on-device data won’t be lost (for example if you change phones, clear your browser or uninstall the app).
- We’re not responsible for losses that weren’t foreseeable, for business losses (Torn is for personal use), or for decisions you make based on dilemmas, explainers, articles or your profile.
- Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t legally be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you’re a consumer, you also keep your legal rights under the laws of where you live.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you before it takes effect. If you don’t agree, you can stop using Torn and delete your data.
10. Ending
You can stop using Torn at any time. We may suspend access if you break section 5.
11. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales, or, if you live in Scotland, Northern Ireland or elsewhere as a consumer, in your local courts where the law allows. Please contact us first at hello@dailymoraldilemma.com. We’d rather sort things out directly.
12. App stores
Apple and Google aren’t responsible for Torn or its content, and they aren’t parties to these terms. Your use of the App Store or Google Play is also subject to their terms.
